Bridges

Missing tooth and Fixed BridgeWhen a tooth loses one of its neighbors or opposing biting partners, to some degree, it stands alone. Without the support of its lost companion, the neighboring tooth will be subject to many problems: abnormal decay areas, instability, and even bone loss. Followed by the next neighboring tooth, then the next. It can be a vicious and unending cycle, affecting the entire mouth. (See figure 1.)

The fixed bridge is a cemented replacement for missing teeth. It restores normal function and stabilization by providing the remaining teeth with neighbors and biting partners. A fixed bridge can help balance a normal bite, prevent unnatural stress on the dental ridge, prevent the opposing teeth from falling, prevent drift and tilt of adjacent teeth, help prevent formation of decay in abnormal areas and help retard the onset of gum/bone disease.
