While preventive maintenance is the best solution, we know that not all decay and cavities are preventable. Immediate treatment of decay may result in a small filling.
However, if you've already had restoration on a tooth, we carefully evaluate the problem. If the seal between the tooth enamel and restoration breaks down, food particles and decay-causing bacteria can work their way under the restoration.
You then run the risk of developing additional decay in that tooth. If the restoration is large or recurrent
decay is extensive, there may not be enough tooth structure remaining to support a replacement filling.
In these cases, your dentist may need to replace the filling with a crown.
A crown can cover and support a tooth with a large filling when there isn't enough tooth left. It can be used to attach a bridge, protect a weak tooth from breaking or restore one that's already broken. A crown is a good way to cover teeth that are discolored or badly shaped. It's also used to cover a dental implant.
We use the latest techniques to find these dental problems and treat them with your comfort in mind. If some form of relaxation therapy is necessary, our staff and Broward - Ft. Lauderdale area facilities are trained and licensed.
