No More Fear with Your Sedation Dentist in Plantation

Filed under: Uncategorized — sleepdentists @ 8:25 pm

How can your sedation dentist in Plantation help you? You’ve never been a big fan of going to the dentist, but you promised yourself that you would finally make an appointment in 2017. For patients just like you, doctors have been using a new approach called sedation dentistry. This enables them to ease the minds of their most anxious and fearful patients while protecting them from any pain. This might sound perfect for you, but you’re probably asking yourself, “How does this actually work? Will I still be able to feel anything?” Today, your sedation dentist in Plantation from Sleep Dentists is going to discuss how they help people finally get the care that they need, and how it works.

How Sedation Helps

Sedation dentistry allows Dr. Waldee, Dr. Hohimer, and Dr. Fien to perform a variety of procedures without causing you any physical pain. It is intended to help curtail the fear that can prevent someone from getting the care that they need, and is also able to calm a person’s nervous mind. While it can’t completely eliminate anxious thoughts, sedation makes them much easier to manage.

Sedation has many other benefits as well, such as enabling a patient to have a lot of dental work done in one visit. This is ideal for people who haven’t been to the dentist in a long time, and helps dental care fit into anyone’s busy schedule. Also, it helps people who aren’t normally able to receive dental care, such as patients who can’t keep their jaw open for an entire appointment, have a sensitive gag reflex, or have special needs.

It order to help the most patients possible, we have a variety of sedation techniques that can be tailored to each particular individual.

Nitrous Oxide

This is the form of sedation most people will be familiar with, and is commonly known as “laughing gas.” This is the lightest form of sedation that we offer, and is best for patients who are only a little nervous about going to the dentist. We primarily use it during standard check-ups and cleanings. A patient simply wears a mask over their nose and breathes in the odorless gas. After about a minute, they will be overcome with a warm, relaxing sensation that they will feel throughout their entire body. Once the treatment is over, the mask is removed and the patient should feel completely normal in a matter of minutes, able to go on about their day.

Oral Sedation

A patient who needs a treatment such as a filling or crown might benefit from oral sedation, which would involve them taking a prescribed pill the day of their visit. They will take it at home so that by the time they reach the office, they will be completely mentally and physically relaxed. Oral sedation eliminates any discomfort and helps time fly by quickly.

IV Conscious Sedation

For patients who need procedures such as extractions and root canals, we also offer IV conscious sedation (also known as Twilight Anesthesia), which is administered via a painless injection in the arm. IV sedation allows the doctor to adjust the sedation level as the procedure progresses, meaning that a patient’s comfort will be ensured the entire time. This approach allows us to treat even the most sensitive of patients safely and comfortably.

General Anesthesia

This is our deepest form of sedation, and is best used for people with extreme dental phobia, special needs patients, and extremely resistant children. With this, a patient will be completely unconscious during the treatment and wake up with no memory of it afterward. It is administered either through an IV or is inhaled. We only use short-acting anesthetics so a patient will be able to wake up with less after effects.

Which One Is Right For Me?

This is a choice best left up to your sedation dentist near Ft. Lauderdale. When you visit Sleep Dentists, your doctor will choose your method of sedation based on the procedure you need as well as your comfort level. Each approach can be fine-tuned to you, and you can be confident in whichever he chooses will help provide you a positive, painless experience.
